Michele Skripp

Michele Skripps

Chief Executive Officer

Michele has 40 years of nursing and patient care services management experience. She became chief executive officer for HealthSouth Charleston in 2017. She has a long tenure with HealthSouth working at HealthSouth Florence  and AnMed Health in Anderson before returning to Charleston. She received her nursing diploma from St. Margaret’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. She also received a degree in ministry training from The University of the South School of Theology, as well as a healthcare management certification from Lander University in South Carolina.


William J. Livesay, D.O.

Medical Director

Dr. Livesay is the medical director at HealthSouth Charleston. He has also served as the medical director at Gentiva Rehab Without Walls in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as the medical director at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Acute Rehabilitation Service also in Phoenix. His clinical interests include spinal cord injury, brain injury, amputee and spasticity treatment. Dr. Livesay is a 1999 graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and holds a bachelor's degree from West Virginia University.  Dr. Livesay completed his internship in 2000 in the Department of Family Medicine at West Virginia University Hospitals and his residency in 2003 in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine.  He was board certified in 2005 by the Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Jim Burns

Director of Plant Operations

Jim has been the director of plant operations since June 2007. Prior to coming to HealthSouth, he was director of plant operations for seven years at Palmetto Behavioral Health in Charleston. Jim served 23 years with the United States Navy before retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in 1990. While in the Navy, Jim served as engineer officer on two large ships and helped recommission the U.S.S. Iowa. Jim and his wife Charlotte live in Summerville where they are active in their church and other community events.

Lakisha Butler

Lakisha Butler BSN, RN, CRRN

Director of Quality and Risk Management

Lakisha is a registered nurse and has served in multiple leadership roles since joining HealthSouth Charleston in 2008. Her devotion to customer satisfaction and process improvement has led her to her current role as director of quality/risk management, which she assumed in 2017. She leads the fall prevention efforts and is a nationally recognized presenter on the topic. Prior to HealthSouth Charleston, she was an emergency department nurse at Summerville Medical Center and a telemetry unit nurse at Cleveland Clinic. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Walden University and is a Certified Registered Rehabilitation Nurse (CRRN). Lakisha volunteers as a triage nurse at the Medical Outreach Clinic of Summerville.

Beckye Lariviere

Beckye has been with HealthSouth of Charleston since 2004 and has years of prior healthcare financial management experience in both specialty and acute care hospital settings. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration from Charleston Southern University. She is an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan.

Tracie Blackmon

Tracie L. Lee

Business Development Director

Tracie joins HealthSouth with more than 15 years of healthcare marketing and public relations experience in an acute care hospital setting. She holds a bachelor's degree in international marketing and foreign language from the University of South Alabama in Mobile and is fluent in Spanish. Tracie and her three sons live in Summerville and are very active in their church and community.

KellyAnne Lee

KellyAnne Lee, MSN, MBA, RN, CCRN

Chief Nursing Officer

KellyAnne is the chief nursing officer at HealthSouth Charleston. She received her associate degree in nursing from Gwynedd Mercy University, her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Jacksonville University and her master’s degree in nursing and master’s degree in business administration from University of Phoenix. With more than 20 years of nursing and leadership experience in a variety of patient settings, she is a strong advocate of evidenced-based practice and nursing research at the bedside to improve patient outcomes. She has served as the principal investigator on internally and externally funded research studies and has presented and published on a variety of topics including leadership as well as the Beach Chair Position, a mobilization protocol to improve patient outcomes. KellyAnne was nominated and awarded the 2014 South Carolina Palmetto Gold Award, a recognition of the top 100 South Carolina Registered Nurses who exemplify excellence in nursing practice and commitment to the nursing profession.

Janina Belgrave

Janina Mclean

Director of Case Management

Janina is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience in the areas of healthcare, child welfare and behavioral health. Her passion for advocacy has enabled her to work with diverse client populations in various cities on the United States East Coast. She has more than 10 years of experience in healthcare and holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland at College Park as well as a master’s degree in social work from Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work. Janina, her husband and daughter are actively involved in community outreach through the local church that her husband pastors. A native New Yorker, she is a loyal Yankees fan and remains neutral in South Carolina’s Tigers-Gamecock rivalry.


Jamy Mendez

Director of Therapy Operations

Jamy is a graduate of Trident Technical College with an associate degree in allied sciences. A physical therapist assistant with more than 15 years experience in the healthcare field, she has been employed with HealthSouth Charleston for more than 12 years. Jamy is an active volunteer in the community with wheelchair sports and has been a volunteer with the Charleston Amputee Support Team (CAST) for almost 10 years. She was the recipient of the Charleston Regional Business Journal’s 2006 award for “Healthcare Hero Volunteer” for her work in the community.


Nihar H. Patel, D.O.

Program Director of Medical Services

Dr. Patel is a 2003 graduate of University of Pikeville School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Patel became board certified in 2006 by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has been serving the Charleston area since 2006. Dr. Patel is president of the Society of Hospital Medicine, Lowcountry chapter. In 2011, he founded Pinnacle Physicians, LLC, a hospitalist company with a mission to provide the highest quality of care for inpatient services.

Cathy Sanner

Director of Pharmacy Operations

Cathy has been the pharmacy director at HealthSouth since 2007. She has more than 14 years of pharmacy management experience. She received her BS in pharmacy from The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Pharmacy. She also has a bachelor’s degree from the College of Charleston in secondary education and taught history, geography, journalism and English before seeking her degree in pharmacy. Cathy instructs pharmacy students from South Carolina College of Pharmacy where she is an adjunct assistant professor. She has lived in the Charleston area for more than 30 years.

Human Resources Director

Susan has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare human resources management at HealthSouth Florence. She enjoys spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Susan is also involved with missions through her church. 

Heather Walker

Heather W. Walker, M.D.

Program Director of Neuroscience Services

Dr. Walker is the program director of neuroscience services at HealthSouth Charleston. She joins the HealthSouth Charleston team from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she resided as an associate professor and residency program director for the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Walker completed medical school at the University of Kentucky and served as the administrative chief resident during her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh. Following residency, she completed a fellowship in spinal cord injury at the renowned Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. She is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, and brain injury medicine.
